The Weeding Brush
Dr, Rex Cameron started Cameron Products when he developed a new concept for eradicating weeds from lawns and footpaths.
A product had been available for many years on the Australian market called the Zero Weeding Wand.
The product had a wick at one end which you touched against the weed and within 1 to 2 weeks it died. The idea greatly appealed to the public (and was strongly advertised). Everybody had one sitting in their back shed but not being used because it did not work reliably.
The other issue was it tended to drip when carried between weeds and many times the herbicide fell on to areas that were valuable to the gardener and subsequently killed th wrong plant.
Concept of using a 'brush' instead of a 'Wick'
The concept of the weed brush was to replace the wick with a brush. A valving mechanism was created to supply a controlled amount of weedkiller to the brush. This meant a less concentrated solution was required and the end user was able to visibly see liquid imparted to the plant surface.
Distribution of the Product.Cameron Products approached Yates with the finished product. They had purchased the Zero operation (glyphosate weedkiller).
Brougham Associates Involvement:
The attraction to Cameron Products of Yates was that they had a door open to every outlet in the country. Yates have now been selling The Weeding Brush for over in years wit sales increasing every year.
The product retails for about $33 (Aust).
In 2005 Cameron Products approached Brougham Associates to assist with getting The Weeding Brush into the UK market. We researched and visited the UK market in November of 2005, seeking out possible oppotunities for the product, visiting may of he larger retail companies to evaluate their thoughts on the product. We also spoke and liaised with the SA Govt office in London and with Austrade.
We followed this up with further research and communication with people we had met in the UK and it was decided that the product should be exhibited at the Northern Hemispheres' largest Garden Exhibition (GLEE) at The National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham UK.
We followed this up with visits to all of the companies who had showed interest in the product.
Our aim was to find a company who had the capabilities to distribute the product, firstly in the UK and then into Europe.
We found a company who, not only wanted to do this, but wanted to manufacture it in China, and then release it into the USA (which was the third market we were intending to breach ).
Spectra Tools Company from Beverley in East Yorkshire, UK, have now signed an agreement to represent Cameron Products through their large network in the regions mentioned.

Rex Cameron from Cameron Products is delighted with the efforts from Brougham Associates in getting to this stage and has asked us to continue to assist in his future marketing of the product.
