Light Eco

Light Eco is a versatile energy controller offering 240/230/220 volt and 10/16/20 amp units. It is fail-safe, and intelligent through the incorporation of both voltage and current sensing and the patented “zero crossover switching” system. It has been tested and complies with the provisions of CE for the European Union (EN 55015, 60598, 60742, 61000), AS/NZS 3350.1 2002 for Australia and New Zealand and has the ‘Ctick’ approval for compliance to EMC (Regd No: N1759).
Light Eco units are manufactured in a state of the art factory, accredited to International Quality Standard ISO 9002.
Brougham Associates is contracted to assist with marketing the Ilum-a-Lite range of products in South Australia, West Australia and the Northern territory. We also look after all the print and promotional requirements of Ilum-a-Lite Pty Ltd.
We have also assisted in the Introduction of the Ilum-a-Lite range in the UK and ongoing assistance is continuous with short term contract arrangements in this area.

How does Light Eco work?
Fluorescent lights are normally operated within standard Utility supply voltage. The nominal supply voltage is only required to allow the lights to strike, thereafter the operating voltage can be reduced, still within the range of the Power Utility, with only a small reduction in light output. When a bank or strip of lights is turned on Light Eco holds the voltage at normal for a preset time and then returns to economy mode. Light Eco uses an auto transformer to switch from normal to economy voltage. After a start up period, the auto transformer switches to the reduced voltage. The drop in current is dependent on the age and type of fluorescent fittings. Cases documented show consistent savings in excess of 25%, many over 30%. Light Eco is not affected by the switching on or off of adjacent banks.
Current and Voltage Sensing
When additional lights in a circuit are turned on Light Eco senses the changes in demand and switches back to mains voltage, the time restarts to allow the newly switched lights to warm-up. Light Eco can be used in areas where stable lighting is important such as office blocks, hotels, warehouses, supermarkets, schools, and libraries.
Efficient Fluorescent Light Energy Controller
Light Eco uses unique soft switching. The microprocessor control has overcome the cost, size and performance problems of earlier devices through the use of an auto transformer and solid state, soft switching timing circuits. Light Eco is fail-safe: in event of failure it returns to mains. Light Eco is compact, can be located at the distribution board or installed directly in the switched light line, before or after, the light switches. It can be mounted horizontally, vertically or hung from ceiling hangers. And you can see when you are saving! When Light Eco switches to economy mode a green light on the bottom of the unit is lit. Green means savings, green means a better environment. In addition to savings in power consumption, Light Eco extends the life of the fluorescent tubes and in areas where cooling is required, reduces the cost of air-conditioning. Further cost savings of up to 25% of the capital cost can be achieved.
Our record says it all
More than 35,000 Light Eco units have been installed in a wide range of sites including schools, supermarkets, banks, industrial workshops, apparel factories, hotels, hospitals, office blocks and car park buildings. Service Stations and warehouses are also prime locations for Light Eco. Experience has shown that twenty fully loaded Light Ecos situated in a factory where 1400 tubes are ‘on’ for 20 hours a day will save $5000 on the annual electricity account, save 120 tonnes of CO2 with a Return on Investment of 88%, and payback in 13.7 months. (Saving based on an average kilowatt-hour price of 8.5 cents per k Whr). Rising electricity prices means that many companies and organisations are now paying up to twice this rate per kilowatt hour meaning Light Eco gives highly effective returns on investment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the Guarantee?
A: The guarantee is to save you at least 25% of the fluorescent lighting bill
Q: What is the warranty?
A: The warranty is 3 years. If you wish to extend beyond the 3 years, please talk to your Account Manager who will advise you on the terms and conditions.
Q: Can our own electricians do the installation?
A: YES we encourage because the electrician then becomes and advocate of our product and the installation is very, very simple.
Q: What Happens when small banks of lights are turned on & off within the circuit?
A: Good Question. This is a critical question on the operation of our product and is covered by our patent. The tube manufacturer insist that the tubes must be started at Full Voltage to avoid degradation to the life of the tube. We continuously monitor Current and Voltage, and in doing so we sense when a small bank say 4 tubes are turned 'on'. We immediately switch the system back to full power to allow these tubes to warm up; then 1-3 mins later we put everyone back into economy mode.
Ask your Account Manager for more Details.
Q: Do they need servicing?
A: If you mean like changing the Oil - NO. It is advisable to have your electrician check it when they do your normal maintenance. This is easily done by tong testing the circuit.
Q: How long will the Light Eco last?
A: Light Eco has been destructively tested beyond 28 years of operation. We believe that an electronic product still working 3-6 mths after being installed will most likely last 15+ yrs.
Q: Does Light Eco work with BMS
A: YES. Be sure to point this requirement out to your Account Manager, as different solutions are required dependent on the BMS. We have systems currently working with Honeywell, Clipsal and Clevertronics.
Q. How do I know it is working?
A. When Light Eco is in economy mode a green LED light will be lit on the bottom left of the unit.
